WHY CHOOSE LIMOUSIN

CARCASS

The Limousin breed is well known for its high carcass quality.

Limousin has won the honour of Top Carcass at Canada's Western Agribition for 28 Consecutive years (1975-2003), a winning streak that is unmatched by any breed!

TASTE

In Camrose Alberta at the 2006 Canadian Bull Congress the Limousin Breed was named "Best Tasting Beef" and was chosen as "People's Choice" among 7 other breeds.
"It was quite an honour to be considered among your peers in the beef industry as offering the best beef with the best flavour," said Debbie Verbonac, Marketing Manager for the Canadian Limousin Association. "That is what the Limousin breed is known for and that is our ultimate goal: offering a product the consumer will consider again and again as a consistent pleasurable eating experience. Coming out on top at such a prestigious taste test is a testament to that goal, which is exciting."

PROFIT

Closer to home, the Limousin breed took part in the 2000 Beef Symposium.  Nine breeds or breed combinations each submitted 2 steers for a feed trial at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown  College.  All steers were from performance tested farms.  The trail included initial and final carcass value determination, Ultrasound and bi-weekly body weights, carcass grading, yield determination, as well as tenderness determination at the University of Guelph Meat Lab.

A Limousin steer from Bee Zee Acres (Steer 3) was named the most profitable in the trial, with the other Limousin placing 4th overall for profit.

CONSISTENCY

For four consecutive years (2002-2005), Limousin has topped all breeds in feed efficiency at the Great Western Beef Expo. In 2005, Limousin steers posted nearly 4 lbs. average daily gain and a 5:1 feed conversion, contributing to

$3/cwt. less average cost of gain.  The Limousin steers dressed at 66%, had 0.14 in. less outside fat and 2 in2 larger ribeyes, resulting in nearly a full yield grade better than the overall average.

BOTTOM LINE
